parts of your analysis I would have to disagree with.
I find EVE to be much more balanced then WoW, without nearly the immense amount of problems that occur with the class system in WoW. Browse the general forums for each game and all you hear about on the WoW forums is how the game is "broken" and that there's too much of a difference between classes. In EVE that problem is pretty much nonexistent. True you have the differences between ships and equipment, but you can overcome that easily enough. The major difference between the two games that adds to the balance of EVE is that you do not have to be a hardcore gamer to progress.
True, there are "hardcore" players in EVE that do 0.0 and low sector space, but I've found just as many people who are able to play only a few nights a week who are participating in the same areas (and they're not there because of family/friend relations). This ability for casuals and hardcore gamers to coexist in EVE, I think, is mainly due to the "leveling system" present in EVE. In WoW you need to play 24/7 in order to get gear and level so that you can be comparable to others.
In EVE you need to buy parts and ships; however, the gap that the strenghts of each type of ship creates can be close depending on the skills you train in and how capable you are of handling your craft. You do not need to play 24/7 to get ahead in EVE because you can set a skill to train for quite a while, up to 10 days with some of the higher quality skills, which allows you other time to actually play the game, and not grind consistently. Also, the size of WoW guilds that perfrom end game raiding are immensely large, and if they weren't so large then a guild cannot take part in the end game. For EVE that size does not need to be nearly as large, in fact, a smaller corp can perform just as well in guerilla warfare as a larger corp could in a head-on fight, and that's all because EVE is balanced.
Comparing WoW to EVE is a silly comparison. WoW is a glorified EverQuest that has you grinding from day 1. EVE is a game that has a balance between all players that allows you to play a game and have it fun, without worrying about grinding in order to participate in the end game material.
